Sheffield City Council

Sheffield City Council is the local authority for the City of Sheffield, serving a population of around 560,000 residents, and one of four constituent members of the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
Sheffield has a rich industrial heritage rooted in steelmaking and manufacturing and has evolved into a leading centre for advanced manufacturing, clean energy, health innovation and digital industries. Home to two universities and the internationally renowned Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District, the city plays a key role in the regional economy. Despite these strengths, Sheffield faces significant challenges including child poverty, health inequalities, skills gaps and disparities in opportunity between communities.

Sheffield City Goals
Sheffield City Goals are six stories representing what the council is working towards and the values it holds. These include – An Entrepreneurial and Creative Sheffield; A Green and Resilient Sheffield; A Sheffield of Thriving Communities; A Connected Sheffield; A Caring and Safe Sheffield; and A Sheffield for All Generations.

Pathways to Work and Opportunity Sheffield
As part of South Yorkshire’s Pathways to Work scheme – part funded by the Department for Work and Pensions – Opportunity Sheffield delivers employment, skills and health support to unemployed and economically inactive residents in Sheffield. The partnership includes regional government, the VCFSE sector, learning providers, the NHS and the private sector to remove barriers to accessing support and staying in work.
