London Borough of Camden

Camden council image

Camden Council is the local authority for the London Borough of Camden, led by Councillor Sagal Abdi-Wali, who became Leader following the May 2026 local elections.

Camden is a borough of contrast and diversity, home to almost a quarter of a million people and a diverse community compacted into 22 square kilometres of central London. It has world-class strengths in the knowledge economy, life sciences, creative industries and AI, with the Prime Minister launching the London AI Campus in King's Cross in late 2024. Yet in 2024, around 37% of children were living in poverty, with indicators like crime, barrier to housing, and low incomes contributing to deprivation.

We Make Camden

The council's overarching strategy, We Make Camden, sets out four long-term Missions developed in collaboration with residents: ensuring young people can access economic opportunity and feel safe and secure; transforming the borough's food system so everyone eats well; making Camden's estates and neighbourhoods healthier and more creative; and ensuring those in positions of power are as diverse as the community they serve.

Inclusive Growth in Camden

Camden is a hub for creativity and productivity, and is a major driver of the London and national economy. The borough is designing a new Inclusive Growth Strategy to invest in people, place and prosperity, where growth is environmentally sustainable, community assets are protected, and citizens have agency to create shared places across Camden.
